Macular Degeneration is caused by a combination of both genetic and environmental factors. Researchers have discoved that genetics appear to be a major factor in more than half of the AMD sufferers. Children can inherit genetics that are linked to AMD. Whether or not they will develop the disease, depends on a number of environmental factors, such as diet, smoking or infections.
