From egg to dissolvable powder beverage
The carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin are yellow-coloured pigments which naturally occur in the eye, but also slightly in the yolk of eggs. To be absorbed in the human body, the carotenoids need to be dissolved in a fatty environment, such as egg yolk. In order to enhance the level of carotenoids in the egg yolk, lutein and zeaxanthin, obtained from the marigold flower, are added to the feed of the chickens. Also, the omega-3 fatty-acid DHA is added to the chicken feed, as it is an important substance for the functioning the retina. Thereafter, the egg yolk of these special eggs is mixed with dairy, creating a fresh beverage.
This fresh beverage is dried to a powder, which can be easily reconstituted to a palatable beverage. The powder is packed in sachets, making it easy to take it with you. By dissolving the powder in water, a yellow-coloured beverage is created. This beverage has a unique bioavailability, meaning that it is very easily absorbed by the human body and that the active ingredients are efficiently transported to where they are needed, i.e. the yellow spot (macular) in the eye.
Overall, the great advantage of eggs is that lutein and zeaxanthin bind to the fats in the egg yolk. As a result, the human body can easily and consitentyly absorb and transport them via the intestines to the eyes, giving MacuView a unique bioavailability.
